The women in my local pharmacy wear these buttons:

Signora a chi?” -- “Who are you calling ‘ma’am’?”

In Italy, the man behind the counter is dottore. The woman -- with the same training, the same duties -- is often called signora.

Italy is a country where titles are important, and men usually get them more than women do.

Seems like a valid point to make during International Women’s Month.
