Metaphors are the stitching together of two seemingly disparate ideas, which requires some innate sensitivity to the world. Artists have it, writers have it, but my favorites by far are the comedians. The very artform of standup comedy is about creating comparisons between things that seem discordant, but when paired together, reveal a deeper truth about their sameness. This sameness is unexpected and shocks us - we find it novel, and thus delightful. Oh, I get it. Then we laugh.
