It’s test prep season, and I'm always reminded of Tomato Harvest- one of the first tests I ever gave. Kids did terribly- no one had ever grown a tomato! (Which was kind of a shock in central Texas, but ever thus.)

Today we read Snowball, which has all the baseball references but never says ‘baseball.’

The accessibility of both these poems hinges on background knowledge that's not best learned in books.
