The SaaSpocalypse narrative only works if you believe one thing.
That SaaS is just a user interface sitting on top of a database.
That’s why it feels replaceable. If AI can generate the interface, then the product disappears.
But that’s not how software actually behaves inside a company.
Over time, software stops being something people use. It becomes something the business runs on. It holds the system of record. It shapes workflows. It defines how decisions get made and who is accountable for them.
At that point, replacing it isn’t a product decision. It’s an operational one.
You’re not rebuilding screens.
You’re rebuilding the system underneath them.
That’s the part the current narrative is missing.
