Everyone is talking about the SaaSpocalypse.

The idea that AI will wipe out SaaS as we know it. That enterprises will start generating their own CRM, ERP, and internal tools instead of buying them.

At first glance, it sounds right. If software can be created on demand, why pay for it?

But that logic rests on the flawed assumption that SaaS is just a UI. If that were true, Salesforce would have died long ago.

The most valuable software companies didn’t win because of their interfaces. They won because they became the systems businesses run on. Systems of record. Systems of control. Systems that sit inside workflows and hold years of operational history.

AI can generate something that looks like software, but it cannot instantly recreate those systems.

What’s happening right now isn’t an extinction event. It’s a sorting. The market is finally forcing a distinction that has always been there.

Some companies built dashboards, others built systems. And AI is about to make that difference impossible to ignore.

What am I missing?
