The app for independent voices

I used a similar technique for my dissertation when I was teaching five year olds to read and write. Showed them paintings, played them music and asked them to talk about what they saw and heard, then do their own painting to the music and tell me its story. I wrote the story they told me, they copied it and were able to read it back. They asked to listen to more music so I left it on open access. One little girl put the head phones on and sat in wrapt silence for ages. Finally, she took off the headphones, tears running down her cheeks and asked me ‘Why is the lady so sad?’ She’d been listening to the wrong music—Brunehilde’s death scene in Götterdämmerung. The panel of judges actually queried the authenticity of that anecdote!
