With six or seven months of winter weather in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, a single selection chosen as my Favourite - 2025 to share with Aminus3 Photography inevitably results in an image containing snow and ice. There will surely be some summer shots in my 25 pics from ‘25!
Ever since seeing Miguel Rio Branco’s “Blue Tango,” I have been fascinated by how grids can create a dynamic and mood somewhere between stills and cinematography. This 3×5 comes from a series of photographs taken about one second apart as the lighting changed at the Clean Machine Car Wash. It was a cold, dark February morning (minus 25ºC, 07:30 am). I fell on the ice as I headed, with too much haste, to get to my anchor spot. Too cold to set up a tripod, so I cradled the camera in my fingerless gloves, taken momentarily out of my big mitts. In my photographic adventures, free from AI, it’s about the journey, not (just) the destination.
Happy New Year, Substackers.
