This fantastic object, a runic inscribed spindle-whorl, was found by Mrs Denise Moncaster while metal detecting around Saltfleetby, Lincolnshire, in 2010.

The inscription possibly says, ‘Óðinn and Heimdallr and Þalfa, they are helping you, Úlfljót, and . . .’. The end of the inscription reads kiriuesf but it is uncertain what that means.

This is a tricky inscription to work with for many reasons. Have you heard about this inscription before? Why do you think people might write the names of their gods on a spindle-whorl?
