Your voice is always appreciated Parker J. Palmer. My answer to your question is that I am intentionally reminding myself to look for the humanity in others. Common ground has to extend beyond identity groups if we are to cohere long enough to bring the American experiment to fruition. I work to keep my mind and heart open to all, even those whose behavior I find deeply disturbing or those whose perspectives confound me.

This is not an easy practice, but if I can make one increment of progress each day by seeing what’s common in a person or situation when I would normally default to judgment or tribalism, then I can put my head on the pillow at night knowing that I did something to be part of the solution.
