I did a couple TV commercials straight out of high school after returning to the US. I discovered the hard way that I can’t act. It’s harder than it looks. Both “spots” were shot the same day, because they did not ask me to do more. 😂

But they also paid me to make a sign that would come down the front of a steamroller in the spot, so that was my first professionally commissioned art. The campaign was for a major hardware store and my coworkers and friends would tell me each day which channels they saw it on.

I later saw Tom Selleck say that “acting is not about showing emotion, but the masks people use to hide their emotions.” Good advice.

It was many years before I did more commercials, and since I got into making them and hiring the actors, I stayed out of the commercials myself unless an extra failed to show up.
