I don't think he cares if it's helter-skelter. He does what makes him feel powerful -- whether right, wrong, planned, unthought-out, or stupid. He follows Musk because Musk has given him the big bucks. I believe Musk has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder -- that explains his erratic and manic overspending and his need to feel powerful (to the extreme).
