Lately I’ve been meeting 30-something men who are talented, high-IQ, well-educated, sane… and kind of lost. There’s no judgment here; I’ve been adrift at times too. I just wonder if there’s something deeper going on. Any thoughts on this?
Here are some possible theories:
a) This is nonsense and I’m reading too much into it
b) Some young men are opting out of establishment career tracks they view as hostile
c) Men of this age are in a vortex of institutional change and upheaval, where 20th century institutions are dead to them but new ones haven’t fully supplanted them
d) Lack of fathering or there’s too big of a generational gap to get good guidance
e) First adult generation of boys who grew up in a “war on boys” regime, were over-prescribed, and grew up digitally
f) A sort of Millennial male loneliness epidemic
g) Other
Thoughts?
