The project’s creative director explained the ambition of the issue is: “to capture the Revolutionary Era in all of its complexity, contradictions, and ingenuity.”
This is precisely the kind of in-depth, nuanced, historically grounded writing we need as a counter-narrative to the mythologizing and propagandizing that is proliferating in the present.
