Was delighted to find myself quoted in Forbes magazine recently, but the real credit goes to Anne Lamott’s classic book on writing. I transformed her metaphor into a literal practice:

The first bird I spot, I take a few minutes to calmly observe it, listen to any birdsong, and breathe deeply while doing so. For the rest of the day, when I’m feeling stressed/overwhelmed, I think about that ‘early’ bird.”
