If your faith is wrung out by the failings of the white American church, remember that while Christian nationalists are loud the work of Jesus was small, quiet, hidden.

We can try to put a better version of Christianity out there in writing and on socials, but the essence of the thing, the power of it, will always look like Jesus: slow, quiet, rooted in human connection and presence.

Like a quiet miracle that happens somewhere between sharing some bread and thousands of feeding hungry mouths.

Like reaching out to touch a leper, like forgiving sin, like blessing the poor. Like the mustard seed. Like washing feet. Like the cross.

A true expression of Jesus can only ever look like Jesus. It can’t be violent or coercive or bombastic, because he was not.

These small, quiet acts of love are still happening in congregations across the country, across the world.
