Lunch today was a piecemeal picnic standing at the kitchen counter, beginning with nearly half a quart of kimchi straight from the jar, a boiled egg, a tin of sardines topped with fermented garlic scapes, and a few slices of this divinely smelly Maine cheese named “Pudge” for dessert. Someone should’ve studied my breath while it lived in that sweet, sweet taboo intersection of disgust and desire.
