I just quickly read your post and I've already noted a few of your suggestions. I am especially intrigued with Susan Glaspell.
Right now, I am reading a few books. Barbara Delaney's historical fiction book entitled Follansbee Pond Secrets. Based in the Adirondack mountains, Barbara writes about a female guide who made her way in the mid-19th century.
The other book I just found (used) is titled Adirondack Kaleidoscope and North Country Characters. Somewhat of an anthology or a collection of news articles gathered over the years and compiled, edited and with written commentary by William J. O'Hern. A sort of journalistic history of the early Adirondacks that one may read in a weekly newspaper back then. I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania where we had a weekly newspaper - the Pike County Dispatch. That is probably how I fell in love with this "genre."
