Murders Are Down — But the Credit Grab Is Already a Lie

Source article (Ground News): ground.news/article/mur… Recent reporting shows a sharp decline in murders nationwide — nearly 20% year over year — likely the largest single-year drop ever recorded. The decline is real and welcome. But the interpretation war has already begun. The headline is accurate but incomplete. Without time-series context, it invites false attribution to whoever currently claims political power. Crime trends do not obey election cycles. The pandemic-era homicide spike (2020–2021) occurred across many countries and administrations. The current decline reflects post-pandemic normalization, resumed court systems, local violence interruption efforts, demographic stabilization, and regression from an abnormal peak — not authoritarian crackdowns or political deployments. Celebrating fewer deaths does not require surrendering reality to propaganda.
