Push notifications and alerts can be turned off in the settings of your iPhone. You can “allow” notifications and select how (banner, badges, etc), or you can eliminate completely by turning them off.

Go to SETTINGS → NOTIFICATIONS → and scroll down the list to the Substack app. From there you can select if/how notifications for that specific app are delivered.
