Discover the Van de Graaff Swing Bridge

I’d speculate that few citizens of Tuscaloosa County realize that the Van de Graaff Arboretum & Historic Bridge Park surrounds a small lake formed from Mill Creek, adjacent to the airport.

Should they wander about the Park they might discover this swing bridge across a lily pond.

It’s not far from a “cast and wrought iron bowstring [bridge,] the oldest surviving iron bridge in Alabama.” Built in 1882, it originally spanned the Black Warrior River and was restored and moved to this location over Mill Creek.

Submitted for Aminus3 Photography’s discover prompt.
