Read Shana Naomi Krochmal’s enthusiastic endorsement of Cat Sebastian’s MM romances. I’ve been fascinated by the SURGE in gay love stories primarily written by women (many of them queer) and the popularity. Of course the explosion after the Heated Rivalry TV series adaptation is probably just the next step (after Casey McQuiston’s Red, White & Royal Blue broke through).

Why read romance? You can watch a queer movie, or you can watch a queer television show; you can read plenty of queer lit fic. So why romance? Really, it’s because if you like stories that have a romance subplot—the whole thing is romance. That is why. If that is something that appeals to you, if it makes you happy to see people paired up, or grouped up, or whatever number is involved, then, like, there’s a whole genre for that.
