Risk/Reward: Mets Owner Reveals Too Many Changes May Have Hurt Team
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
That famous saying can easily describe the playoff-hungry Mets, whose owner Steve Cohen made drastic changes to the lineup in an effort to spark the team after missing the playoffs last year.
Cohen admitted that an overzealous strategy might have been a mistake, the NY Daily News reported today.
The focus has recently pivoted to a younger team to build a foundation that will last into the future, including building a better farm system and a more consistent roster.
Cohen still backs VP of Baseball Operations David Stearns, according to reports published today.
The team has gone 11-4 since the trading deadline.
Carson Benge went yard Wednesday, and the Mets clinched the series with the Padres with a 4-2 win.
Jorge Polanco was placed on the IR following the 5-2 loss yesterday.
Surgery to his damaged ankle is imminent and he could be lost for the season, according to interim manager Andy Green.
