Thank you Mandy Morris and Dawn Pulgine for tagging me for a prompt sharing the reason I write and who it’s for.
I’ve always been writing, ever since a little girl. It’s how I process the world and life inside it. I started journaling when I was finding my way back to God, after a few years of living apart from Him. I had doubts about God, His character, and His church.
Now, I write for those who share similar doubts. Or really, the realities of being a Christian. It’s not always so neat and shiny. and that’s the heart of why I write, to dispel the religious “doings” and “sayings” and instead discover the wrestles and joys of knowing God. All the messiness included.
Those who feel there’s something missing with their walk of God, who struggle with Christian language and seek to understand “what it really means” to be a Christian, those are my people. I write for them.
I love this question, Renee Laurence. This is such a good way to reflect on why we write.
Mine is for anyone who wants God, whether they know Him well or are still finding their way. But I also write for those who love beauty, language, memory, and the strange and ordinary holiness of everyday life. For believers, questioners, artists, and quiet seekers alike.
