A dialogue with my daughter when she was about 7 years old (and yes, based on what you'll see, she already loved The Clash)
"Iz, don't put those sandals on. They don't allow open-toed shoes in school."
"No, it's ok to wear them at school."
"No, Iz, seriously. I read the paper they sent home. Open-toed shoes are against school policy."
"Policy?"
"School law"
Iz smiles real big. "Really? Yes! I wore them at school and didn't get busted!" And then she begins jumping up and down singing "I fought the law and law lost!"
Respect is earned, not given. And sure as hell won’t be given to a “prime minister” who has never had a seat in this country before, served the best interests of the CCP, hides funds, lies and has NO CLUE how to lead anything little alone a country.
The biggest lie you tell yourself is that you can only start speaking Mandarin after:
- learning for x years
- having perfect tones and pronunciation
- knowing enough vocabulary
- mastering grammar
You can start now.
You made it, you own it

Compelling critique, Nicole Sullivan. This embrace of left-leaning perspectives (and parallel demonization of conservative viewpoints and research) permeates mainstream media as well. I'll visit your bookstore next time I'm in Denver (I live in Buena Vista).
