This is so relatable! I haven’t read a writing craft book - other than a wee flick-though in bookshops now and then. I lead university & summer school creative writing classes and sometimes am made to feel unqualified for the task because I have resisted the ‘craft books’. The true craft books for me are the novels and nonfiction I love or loathe, and I encourage my students to learn by reading, too. I like to think of it as writing by trade rather than training.
