Agree with what others are saying : it’s not technology per se which is the problem. It is humans and how greedy we are.

Technology could be used to help, could be (subject to black box issues) designed to make societies more democratic not less, fairer not to perpetuate existing bias.

The solution lies in tackling that limitless greed. That could be a problem for philosophers . And the fact that the technology is in the wrong hands at the moment ie not with altruistic people for the most part.

On the optimistic side, I have seen rare examples to counter this ‘let’s see how much money AI can make us and sod the consequences approach’. Google Deep Mind seems much more interested in ethics than most and countries like Taiwan are paving the way for a different approach. Their digital minister is quite inspiring.

But the voices are too solitary at the moment. I’m looking out for them though because AI is not going anywhere any time soon.
