Shaming people who disagree feels effective. It gets laughs, it signals you're on the "right" side, and it shuts things down fast.

It reads as confidence, but it's just noise.

I see this everywhere in health right now. Doctors mocking patients who question them. Patients mocking doctors who dismiss them. Both convinced the other is acting in bad faith or just dumb.

Nobody changes their mind when they feel disrespected. They walk away, or they double down.

Curiosity does what shame can't. It keeps people in the room.
