We’re in completely unprecedented territory.

Never had a president who intentionally tried to divide America.

Never has a presidency been this corrupt.

But the Founding Fathers warned us.

They studied how democratic republics die.

They knew about demagogues—people who inflame populist passions, divide people to seize power, then undermine liberty.

That’s what we’re facing right now.

The other danger I see is the the growing gap between the super rich and everyone else.

That’s how democracies die too.

Teddy Roosevelt took on both the radicals and the reactionaries.

He understood that extreme inequality destabilizes democracy itself.

We need to build that vital center.

That radical center. Not left, not right—forward.That’s our task now.
