I remember a third year IM resident telling me she had to get three IV’s signed off (this is for her entire training) and she hadn’t done it yet. When we were looking at places to train, the ones that had doctors drawing labs or doing social work were looked down upon heavily. Different for critical care specialties of course, but for my generation (and I’m still in residency as an outpatient physician only) scut work has declined and is viewed with utter contempt.

And I agree with that view.
