Substack has problems.

Here are five I’m seeing (and hearing folks regularly bemoan):

1. When you discover Substack, initially fall in love, and then naturally subscribe to five, eight, ten newsletters, your entire inbox becomes inundated by Substack. And that…is terribly annoying.

2. Substack does not make it easy to turn email notifications off or mass unsubscribe on platform.

3. Having to publish long form, short form and live video content to grow can quickly become overwhelming for new creators.

4. It’s difficult for a platform operating at Substack’s current scale to produce enough high quality content across all three production verticals, leading to the reduction of content quality across the platform.

5. At current scale, it’s difficult for the platform to not embrace the saturation of its airwaves top-to-bottom AI-generated content, and AI-produced / VA operated brands.
