Olorgesailie, Kenya, is just a remarkable area for archaeological exploration. The finds in this area range in date from as early as 1 million to more recent than 300,000 years ago. The site is in the Great Rift Valley around 90 kilometers southwest of Nairobi.

The most famous discovery is an ancient surface covered in Acheulean handaxes. This “factory” for ancient stone tools, roughly a million years old, is preserved today for visitors to see.
