Blombos Cave is around 300 km east of Cape Town on the southern coastline of South Africa. First investigated in 1991 under direction of Christopher Henshilwood, the site has some of the most exceptional evidence of pigments, engraved ochre blocks, pigment markings, and shell beads from the period between 100,000 and 70,000 years ago.
