You might think that the transition from Acheulean handaxes to MSA prepared core hafted spears might make a difference to how hominins hunted. But comparisons of 40 archaeological sites from across Africa show that prey size, age profile, and other evidence of hunting choices did not change when technology changed. Only the intensity of hominin access seems to have increased over time. Still, the data show the importance of many biases in the archaeological record, especially the difference between cave sites and open air sites in how the hominins behaved.
