I went through a short spell of non-horror. Swimming Upstream was intentionally so, but Be Kind, Rewind went from super dark to something else entirely. During writing, when I typed the first dialog from the older female character, I heard her speaking in my mum’s voice. It retained some dark elements but eventually became more of a love story. I asked both of my sisters for permission to write it this way, and they both said yes and ended up loving it.
