In law school I saw a lot of people study non-stop without ever taking the time to think about what they were learning—to digest it, to play with it, to make it theirs. My sense was that their fear of failure and bad grades made them afraid to stop studying long enough to think.

It’s as if they thought they were on a treadmill and if they stopped sprinting, they would fly off the back. Really, they were on a hike and if they had taken a second to breathe, they may have been able to get their bearings and actually take in the landscape
