The Rockwell XFV-12: An attempt to marry a Mach 2 platform to vertical takeoff. Ducting engine thrust through vents in deployable wing slats, it carried ordnance under the fuselage due the design rendering tne wings off-limits. The unique vertical lift approach grew the forward canards to the point that it became a tandem wing design.

Unfortunately, thrust losses through the complex ducting were too severe, so it could not sustain its weight in the hover and the futuristic arrowhead was cancelled.
