Jars of Clay - The Long Fall Back to Earth (2009)

You can hear the relational weariness in these songs, almost palpably so. Being on the road near constantly for over a dozen years probably had a lot to do with it. “Lay Your Weapons Down,” “Closer,” and “Safe To Land” are probably the greatest glimpse of this. “Closer” states achingly, “I don’t understand why we can’t get close enough” and we hear Haseltine asking if “it’s safe to land” when talking about coming home from a long tour in “Safe To Land.”

All in all I’d say that though there are many fabulous lyrics on the album this is the one and only Jars album I like strictly by how it sounds, and secondarily how the sounds make me feel.
