OMG J this was a proper joy to read all the way through. You’ve got such a knack for catching the little things that make a place feel alive, the beaver dam sounding like a pipe organ, that kingfisher dive, the twins trying to catch squirrels with a box and a stick, the camp gypsies wandering past with their dogs and stories. The acrylic painting, the birds and chipmunks at the feeder, Diandra’s work, the sage and spring flowers, the cutthroat trout, even the long slow job of picking glass and rubbish out of the creek, it all lands really well. I especially liked the quiet pride in the simple stuff, getting the trailer level, rebuilding the firepit, and the bigger heart underneath it, making room for the grandkids and the dogs and this whole new retirement chapter. Feels like the canyon is doing something good for both of you.

You mentioned ideas for the newsletter and how it looks. One thought is to keep the Buffalo Souls Report as a running thing and give each post a simple shape, a short nature bit, a practical camping note, and one personal moment with family or the animals. Pair it with a clean earthy feel, soft paper textures, a few of Diandra’s acrylic pieces, maybe a little hand-drawn sketch or campsite map. Keeps that spontaneous carpenter-pencil energy without looking messy.
