Well this is surreal for me! I'm so excited to share that my short story “We Are Sorry For Your Suffering” - a sci-fi fable about the end of the world (and also love, consciousness, & many other things) - is the December issue of One Story, a dream journal of mine that I've been submitting to for over a decade! This piece has been in the works for years (shows how long a short story can take): It was the 2023 third place winner in Zoetrope: All-Story’s Short Fiction Contest, though even at that point it was five-ish years old, and still in-progress. It has been through many, many drafts, iterations, and changes, though given that it’s about AI and the fate of humanity (and also parenthood, growing up, and really consciousness itself), it grew into its relevance recently and I couldn’t be more thrilled to finally get to share it.
