Michael Baumgartner is not confused — he is deceptive. What he did was present himself as calm, reasonable, and polite while knowingly ignoring the factual record. That is not good-faith oversight; it is deliberate misrepresentation in service of Donald Trump. When a member of Congress chooses loyalty to a disgraced insurrectionist over evidence, the problem isn’t tone or style — it’s integrity. You can dress falsehoods up in civility, but they are still falsehoods. Baumgartner isn’t telling uncomfortable truths. He’s laundering lies through decorum, and Washington’s 5th District deserves better than that. I feel bad for his kids.
