Trump Told the 24-Year Age Gap Joke Himself — After Trying to Get Kimmel Fired For Telling the Same Joke

On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Jimmy Kimmel mocked the 24-year age difference between Donald and Melania with a line about her being a “glowing expectant widow.”

Late-night joke.

Delivered as satire.

Crowd laughs.

And then comes this.

Trump was speaking about his parents in front of King Charles five days after Kimmel told his joke:

“…she came to America at 19, met my incredible father, we loved him so much, we all loved him, we loved her, we loved him, Fred, and they were married for 63 years. And excuse me if you don't mind. (He turns to Melania Trump) That's a record we won't be able to match, darling. I'm sorry. It's just not going to work out that way. We'll do well, but we're not going to do that well. 63 years.”

Same structure.

Same premise.

Same punchline.

The difference is who said it.

One is a comedian doing a bit.

The other is the husband—on stage, in public—laying out the ceiling on his own marriage because he fully understands it’s already been decided by the laws of nature.

But in the last 24 hours, Trump and Melania each in separate tweets demanded Jimmy Kimmel be fired, while the Federal Communications Commission circles again to investigate how to remove Jimmy Kimmel from the air.

He went after the joke first.

Then he proved it wasn’t a joke.

For the record, Jimmy Kimmel’s joke was funnier.

Because “expectant widow” isn’t a phrase you hear—unless you’re talking about the First Lady of Leverage.
