I painted this gouache study of a spring field, focusing on simplifying the scene into shapes of color.

When painting color, the lightness or darkness of a color is more important than its hue.

It’s interesting how much you can shift a color and still maintain the feeling of the scene, as long as the values stay consistent. Makes me wonder how far that can be pushed while still keeping things believable.
