Luis Beltrán Yanez Cruz was a 68 year old grandfather who worked for 26 years in the US. He was detained by I*E for nearly two months, became ill, and died on Jan 6th, 2026.

Luis loved his six grandchildren, soccer, and worked in construction and as a painter. For his birthday he was raising money for a children’s hospital.

Josselyn, his daughter, said the last time they spoke on the phone three days before his death, his last words were:

“Cuidate, te amo mucho.”
