Great writing. One point of contention however is that addiction is not a happy place to be. I’m not saying that you should tell your patient to stop smoking because that usually does no good. I’m recommending that you tell your patient to stop and pay attention when they smoke. Check out cravingtoquit.com. My husband’s father stopped drinking when he got his terminal diagnosis of lung cancer. That allowed him time abstinent to spend with his family or with his maker. As a recovering addict, addiction times are not good times.
