As much as I’m looking forward to reading JP’s and JT’s pieces in thenew Literary Imagination (and I really am) it’s PF’s performance that I’m finding mesmerizing. Part of it is Paul’s magnetic sense of aesthetic mission. Inimitable. But also: he’s adopted the very simple expedient of treating a scholarly journal as something someone might actually want to read. I won’t say it’s never been done, but I’m not sure it’s been done in my (academic) lifetime. Amazing.
