It was nearing 7 p.m. this evening and the pharmacist was working alone.
Eight customers floated around his counter, waiting their turn.
Hanger, unwellness or the slow pace might have called forth some grumpiness in someone.
But none came.
Everyone was patient.
Was it because the pharmacist was so polite and kind?
Or was it because he somehow made us all a team?
“Just a moment, sir, I’m just going to speak with this gentleman first.”
“Hang on, I’ll just ring this lady through before we talk.”
We nodded, smiled quietly at our neighbour.
Of course: that’s what teammates do.
