I am totally obsessed with the cinematic, epic piece Sogno di Volare (I dream of flight) by Christopher Tin. Inspired by the writings of Leonardo da Vinci who made sketches for a rudimentary helicopter centuries before humans took to the air, the music feels as if it soars.
I heard my beloved sing it with the Skagit Valley Chorale directed by Dr Yvette Burdick and the North Cascades Concert Band on Saturday and Sunday.
And now I can’t stop listening to it. We searched for recordings and this one feels fitting as it is ‘From the 'Calling All Nations' concert at the 70th Annual Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod, Wales, July 5, 2017. Conducted by Christopher Tin and featuring the Celebration Chorus and the Welsh National Opera Orchestra.’
It resonates with my story in this week’s edition of Despatches from the Pacific Northwest.
