If I'm honest, skipping the PPG dinner isn't a big deal. It's a snub, sure, but that's what we should expect from him — and, for what it's worth, I can't entirely blame him. While I agree with you that he deserves close scrutiny because of his electoral strategy, we (the media) also need to be careful. We have a habit of blowing things out of proportion (I.e. suggesting the convoy was financed by Russia.) Given how hard he's weaponizing distrust of the media, we need to be twice as diligent in our reporting on him. I don't think we always have been.

In other words: The media is, sometimes, unfair to conservatives, particularly populists. We make it harder for people to trust us when we're critical, but fair.
