In Celtic lore, the Cailleach is the veiled goddess of winter. She awakens at Samhain, striking the earth with her staff to summon frost, silence, and snow. From now until Beltane, she reigns over the dark half of the year.

Though fierce, she is not cruel. She brings rest and stillness, preparing the land for renewal. People honoured her with offerings….bowls of oatmeal, hot spiced wine candlelight, and quiet reverence.

She is the breath behind the frost and the hush before spring.
