Chips business is extremely hard. TSMC and Samsung have dozens of years of experience, facilities, and hundreds of billions invested.
China is trying hard too, and while it has made solid achievements, it is still struggling, even with no limits on budget and talent.
Elon Musk wants to do this with companies whose cash flow is, frankly, not strong (and that’s being generous), and with no experience in chips?
This is not car manufacturing.
Edit: I do admire Elon for his achievements. However, we need to set realistic expectations and understand that it likely won’t happen in the next few years, and maybe not even in this decade, especially not with the current cash flow of SpaceX and Tesla. It may require far more capital, likely including significant government subsidies, to create a path to success.
